GelGit

Authentication based Wifi Hotspot

GelGit is the first product of Median Innovation Inc.; which is designed as a gadget for modems in restaurants, cafes, bars and pubs. It is capable of logging web histories and contact information of customers in those venues. We have been designing GelGit as a user friendly product because we believe that technologic products should be easy to use.

GelGit is a plug and play wireless device, designed for restaurants, cafes and bars which serves free Wi-Fi internet to their customers. It aims to help venues about legal regulations on providing internet and to improve venue’s relationships with their customers.

According to Turkish Law no 5651, if a venue is providing internet access to their customers, it has to log users’ time of log-in, time of log-out and MAC addresses. GelGit logs the necessary data and time-stamps it in accordance with the law. These logs will be kept our cloud servers and will be accessible 7/24 by authorized individuals. The process of logging does include any personal data of the customers. It only logs the time of log-in, time of log-out and the MAC address.

The customers of the venue will no longer be in need of calling a waiter to ask for the Wi-Fi password. Customers will be able to use their Facebook profiles or mobile phones to authenticate themselves to access the internet. This provides a better internet experience, especially for 18-24 aged customers and saves time for both waiters and customers. None of the data gathered in the process of authentication will be stored in our servers and will not be shared with 3rd parties, unless a customer wants us to do so.

After the authentication process, GelGit will ask the customers whether if they would like to share their contact information with the venue they are in, for receiving promotional offers. If the customer accepts it, the information will be stored in our servers and will be accessible by the venue owner. Venues can use these personal information to promote themselves with messages like “Happy birthday Mr. John! Your second beer will be on the house in between 01 – 08 January!” or “You have been to our cafe for 9 times this year. Come for the 10th time before the year ends and enjoy your free latte!” In order to gain insight to customers’ willingness about their contact information being used for promotional offers, we’ve conducted a survey with 75 people, aged between 18 and 25. 64% of the participants pointed out that they would share their contact information, if they would get free goods.
